Take Loving Care of Yourself: Using Sprouts & Raw Foods to Detoxify, Heal & Rebuild Your Body
In this series of articles on the health benefits of sprouts, live foods, and healthy living, you are learning about why sprouts are my all-time favorite superfood and my passion for educating others about their life-giving attributes. I learned about the nutritional benefits of sprouts from my grandmother as a teenager and have also gathered much information from the premier company for all-things-sprouting — HandyPantry.com. Before I highlight some more benefits of sprouts, let's take quick look at how miraculous is the human body and its ability to heal itself, if given to right food and loving care.
What happens when you cut your finger? It heals itself. It's a miracle to me. Sometimes though — due to our carelessness — it festers, becomes infected, and begins to give us pain. Pain is our body's signal to us that it needs help. With a cut finger, the course of action is obvious. Clean it and disinfect it. But what about tiny, invisible "cuts" that we can't see, which are happening inside our bodies all the time? What do we do about subtle messages of pain coming from them? Too many of us reach for the nearest chemical "pain-reliever," when we could be doing something more — and better. There is a sword stabbing inside our bodies. A sword which is cutting a swath of ill health in millions of Americans and people worldwide.
Our bodies are being damaged inside, invisibly and mercilessly, by toxic chemical reactions. Toxic chemical additives and hazardous wastes in our air, water, and food supplies will continue to pervade our living and working environments. These toxins are returning to us in everything we eat, drink, and breathe. Thankfully, though, much of the internal damage they do heals automatically, like that cut on our finger. However, when our body is not adequately nourished, it can't neutralize and expel these poisons fast enough, as I write about in my booklet/CD combo Detoxify & Rejuvenate: Dr. Susan's Gold-Star Secrets to Beautiful Skin, a Leaner Waistline & Energy to Spare (which you can get as a Bonus Gift when you purchase my new 2-book set Walking on Air and The Joy Factor through the Penn Herb Company numbers at the end of this article). They build up in our body, and so does the invisible damage they do. Toxic build-up can severely damage our immune system. So how do sprouts help heal the body?
How to Grow Sprouts & Wheatgrass
Good sprouting technique doesn't take a "green thumb," just paying attention to four factors: the right amount of moisture, the correct temperature, the free circulation of air, and minimal light. By rinsing them a couple of times daily, you keep them moist. You also wash away carbon dioxide and other metabolic wastes that could cause souring or spoiling. Using cool water when rinsing ventilates and cools the sprouts to prevent overheating. Proper draining prevents excessive moisture that can cause mold and rot. The ideal sprouting temperature depends on the seed, but generally lies between 70° and 85°. To protect the tiny growing things, keep sprouting containers away from cold drafts, direct heat, or any light. For free air circulation, at least one-third of the container must be empty. Sprouts expand 6 to 10 times over a few days, so give them plenty of room to grow. Sprouts are very light sensitive and need to be covered during the early stages of the growing cycle, as you'll learn in the instructional booklet that comes with your organic sprouting seeds and supplies from HandyPantry.com. Here are the six rules of sprouting:
The Healing Benefits of Broccoli Sprouts & Wheatgrass Juice
Previously, I wrote about growing wheatgrass in your home and juicing it. I have grown my own wheatgrass for juicing or have purchased freshly-made wheatgrass juice at juice bars and natural food stores for decades. Sprouted wheat that grows into wheatgrass about 8 inches long is a potent source of concentrated nutrition. As it grows, wheatgrass concentrates chlorophyll and other nutrients in preparation for becoming a big, fruitful plant. Wheatgrass itself is not digestible in our stomachs because it is too full of cellulose and other indigestive fibers. But when juiced and strained, all the nutrients are freed up and are readily assimilable by the body. And wheatgrass juice is a very powerful overall body detoxifier. Its high chlorophyll content cleanses the liver, tissues, and cells and purifies the blood. Placed in the nose, a few drops can reduce inflamed nasal passages and sinuses, relieving congestion without chemicals. Gargling will help relieve a sore throat. Wheatgrass is an excellent natural mouthwash and breath deodorizer. It will leave the breath smelling naturally fresh while nutrifying the gums and delicate tissues of the mouth. Some have used it on the skin to relieve pain and skin problems.
The Handy Pantry Company has a variety of wheatgrass juicers from which to choose, as well as Wheatgrass Kits and organic wheat seeds. Their team of experts can help you make the best choices for you. As I mentioned last time, wheatgrass and other sprout juices are best taken right after juicing for highest nutritional content. You can refrigerate for a day or two if you use an airtight jar. It will keep for a longer period if frozen quickly right after juicing. Wheatgrass juice is a super tonic for the whole body; it's rich in antioxidants, enzymes, simple sugars, chlorophyll, vitamins, and minerals. Before I extol the virtues of broccoli sprouts, below is some more information on the healing benefits of wheatgrass juice and how it became popular. Also, you'll enjoy this short YouTube Video of an American 48-state trucker who grows wheatgrass and sprouts in the cab of his truck. If he can grow it on the road while he's working, we can certainly grow the wheatgrass and other sprouts in our kitchens.
Sprouts: A Treasure Trove of Nutrients & Vitality Galore
In his glorious poetry collection entitled Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman wrote: The smallest sprout shows there is really no death. As a food, sprouts are approximately 5,000 years old. In 2939 B.C., the emperor of China wrote about their versatile qualities, and these little gems still remain one of the most nutritious foods on earth. The humble sprout truly is one of nature's most amazing creations. If you'd like to listen to an interview I did on the ABC's of growing and consuming sprouts, visit the homepage playbox on my website or click HERE.
When I was a teenager, my grandmother taught me how to grow sprouts and educated me on their benefits for healing the body and restoring vitality. Consuming and growing sprouts has been dear to my heart for 40 years. If you were to visit my kitchen today as I'm writing this, you would find the following sprouts growing with some ready to harvest and others in the early soaking stages: Red Clover, French Blue Lentils, Red Lentils, Garbanzo, Alfalfa, Radish, Sunflower Seed, and Wheat Grass. For years, I've purchased my organic sprouting seeds (I always get organic seeds for sprouting) through this top-notch company — Handy Pantry. It's a family-run business with a commitment to excellence and a contagious passion for the best sprouting seeds and a variety of sprouting supplies.
If you read any of the previous six blogs about sprouts and growing them, it's already evident to you that I have a passion for sprouts — eating them, growing them, and teaching others of their nutritional value and life-enhancing qualities. Whether you enjoy alfalfa sprouts, lentil sprouts, red clover sprouts, or sunflower seed sprouts, or perhaps you've never tried any sprouts at all and want to learn more about them, here's some information on the nutritional value of a variety of sprouts with some simple suggestions on how you can incorporate them into your diet. In this blog, I'll feature the nutrients found ln the sprouts of Barley, Broccoli, Buckwheat, Chinese Cabbage, Fenugreek, Garbanzo, Green Pea, Lentil, Mung Bean, Radish, Red Clover, Red Winter Wheat, and Sunflower Seed Sprouts. Here's a 2-part radio interview I did on the program Bloom Talk that you might enjoy where I talk about my passion for growing sprouts and using them to help heal the body and mind. Seasonal Allergy Relief
To listen to an interview where I discuss my Surefire Stress-Busters & How to Say Good-Bye to Allergies, please click HERE.
Summer is in full bloom now, if you live north of the equator. For many people, it's a time of renewed vigor, outdoor workouts, and gardening galore. Yet for others — and it's estimated that over 40 million Americans suffer distressing seasonal sensitivities — the blooms spell misery.
The good news? As I write about in detail in my booklet/CD combos Herbs: Nature's Medicine Chest and Conquer Cold & Allergies: Surefire Tips to Find Comfort Naturally & Boost Your Immune System, and also communicate in my latest book WALKING ON AIR: Your 30-Day Inside and Out Rejuvenation Makeover, there's hope in nature's medicine chest for safe, effective, and time-tested relief. And while natural remedies can soothe symptoms after they start, many have found it helpful to build up their defenses before seasonal sensitivities get them down.
Take the "Sting" Out of Seasonal Sensitivities
Stinging Nettle is a popular herbal solution for many in my private practice. Why? For one thing, it's a natural source of quercetin, a plant-derived flavonoid that supports the body's response to allergens and inhibits histamine release (the substance produced in the body that causes bothersome sneezing, itching, and respiratory complaints). To find out more about one of my favorite herbal remedies that takes the "sting" out of seasonal sensitivities, please continue.

6. Meditate to reduce stress & weight. Sometimes the things that you experience in your life can put a burden on you physically by causing endocrine, or hormonal, events that go on in your body. Medical experts now believe that this is at the root of many degenerative disease processes. In other words, stress has a biological as well as an emotional effect on you and, over time, it can diminish your body’s ability to fortify, protect, regenerate, and heal itself.
Stress can be triggered by emotions, such as anger, fear, worry, grief, or guilt. It can be the result of an injury or trauma, an accident or surgery. Everyday pressures, like family squabbles, impossible bosses, unfaithful spouses, unruly teens, or overdue bills cause stress. An extreme change in sleep patterns, diets, exercise, and even the climate you live in can also create stress. So can chronic illness, pain, allergies, and inflammation. And too much work or too much of anything can create stress. Continue on to learn about how too much stress affects your weight.

8. Nourish your spirit. To maintain a healthy body, you must first nourish your spirit. The real epidemic in our culture is spiritual heart disease—the experience of low self-esteem combined with feelings of loneliness, isolation, and alienation that pervade our culture. I talk about this in detail in my audio books Wired to Meditate and Choose to Live Peacefully and my new books The Joy Factor and Walking on Air. Many people who suffer from spiritual malaise use food or stimulants such as drugs, caffeine, alcohol, sex, or overwork to numb the pain and get through the day.
Stretching, deep breathing, spending time out in nature, and meditation (for details on all of these subjects, refer to Renew Your Life) will relax your mind and you will experience a greater sense of peace and well-being. Then you’ll be able to make eating and exercise decisions—and other lifestyle choices—that are life enhancing rather than self-destructive. Engage in physical activities that nourish your body and soul. Cherished activities I enjoy include hiking, in-line skating and biking on the bike path on the Santa Monica beach, gardening, walking in a botanical or flower garden, or stretching or yoga (without being in a hurry!).

7. The health benefits of kale, quinoa, and coconut water. Some foods are void of nutrition, while others are low in calories and so packed with nutrition that they earn the title of "superfood." Here's some information on three superfoods that are great picks to keep on hand, especially if you want to lose weight. Superfoods are the best whole foods out there, but not one is a magic bullet. Make sure you include many different superfoods in your diet to help maintain optimal health and easy weight loss. Throughout my website, and in my books Blissful Living Set, The Curative Kitchen, Living on the Lighter Side, The Joy Factor, and Walking on Air, you'll have at your fingertips a wealth of information on all the superfoods to add to your healthy diet. Sadly, many of us make the wrong choices every day by consuming foods that were never intended for our miraculous bodies. In Renew Your Life, I show you, step-by-step, how to make the appropriate food and lifestyle choices to reduce your risks of premature aging, heart disease, common forms of cancer, arthritis, diabetes, and reduced vision and mental functions . . . and lose body fat at the same time. In this Blog, I will highlight three of my favorite superfoods. Let's start with the health benefits of the superfood kale.

5. Graze & hydrate. Liquid meals, diet pills, and special diet packaged food aren’t your answer to increasing metabolism, weight control, or better health. Instead, and in addition to regular exercise, learn how to eat so that your body becomes an efficient fat-burning machine.
The results of four national surveys show that most people try to lose weight by eating 1,000 to 1,500 calories a day. However, cutting calories to under 1,200 (if you’re a woman) or 1,400 (if you’re a man) doesn’t provide enough food to be satisfying in the long term. Eating fewer than 1,200 calories slows down metabolism and makes it difficult to get adequate amounts of certain nutrients, such as folic acid, magnesium, and zinc.
The typical dieter will often skip meals and, as research points out, the worst meal to skip, if you want to increase your metabolism, is breakfast. As highlighted in Renew Your Life, this temporary fasting state sends a signal to the body that food is scarce. As a result, the stress hormones (including cortisol) increase and the body begins ‘lightening the load’ and shedding its muscle tissue. Decreasing muscle tissue, as you know now is very metabolically active, decreases the body’s need for food. By the next feeding, the pancreas is sensitized and will sharply increase blood insulin levels, which is the body’s signal to make fat. And if you’re insulin resistant, as many sedentary people are, you make extra amounts of this hormone (insulin) and make/deposit fat very easily, especially if you eat refined carbohydrates. Have you ever wondered how the Sumo wrestlers get so big? They fast and then gorge themselves with food. Clearly, this approach is absolutely counterproductive if your goal is to lose fat. Continue reading to find out how grazing increases metabolism.

4. Staying motivated to exercise. There’s no doubt about it. Every person who exercises regularly, whether an athlete or not, will have to cope with lack of enthusiasm at one time or another. So how can you stay motivated to workout? “Just do it” was one of the rallying slogans of the late ‘90s. But sometimes it can be tough to live up to. In fact, every person who decides to exercise will face—sooner or later—a lack of motivation, boredom or burnout with a fitness program.
Here are my 15 favorite tips to help you stay motivated and enthusiastic about your workouts, and also prevent injury. If you are in need of more personal motivation, you will find comprehensive guidance and uplifting motivation — including countless examples from my inspiring clients worldwide who overcame obstacles, reconnected with their inner passion and strength, achieved breakthroughs, and created their best lives — in my titles Walking on Air, The Joy Factor, and Renew Your Life.
Steps 2 & 3 of 8 in the series Metabolic Weight Loss & Body Tune-UP Tips

2. Increase your aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise trains muscles to burn fat and increase metabolism. Aerobic exercise means exercising with oxygen, not being winded or out of breath. These types of exercises, which are fairly gentle and nonstop, change your metabolism and also train your muscles to burn more fat. Here’s a key point to keep in mind. Muscles burn fat ONLY in the presence of oxygen. For example, if you’re jogging with your husband and he’s breezing along and singing a song, and you’re so out of breath that you can barely put two syllables together, he’s burning fat but your fat-burning mechanisms have shut down. Muscles burn two kinds of fuel—sugar (glucose) and fat. Your muscles really do prefer to burn fat because it’s more efficient; there’s more of it so it lasts a long time and it produces lots of energy.
Does that mean you shouldn’t do high-intensity sprints every so often? No, as I’ll explain below, but you must make aerobic exercise part of your fitness program at least 5 days a week if you want to lose fat and tone up. By using the big muscles of the thighs and buttocks in an activity that is steady and nonstop (such as cross-country skiing, bicycling, rowing, walking, and hiking), and makes you breathe deeply but doesn’t make you out of breath, you’re supplying oxygen to the muscles, which promotes fat burning in the muscles and makes you burn more food calories. Want to learn how to get fit as quickly as possible? Continue on.
Step 1 of 8 in the series Metabolic Weight Loss & Body Tune-UP Tips

1. Increase your muscle mass. Muscle burns fat. It’s that simple. Exercise increases muscle, tones it, alters its chemistry, and increases the metabolic rate. When you exercise you actually continue to burn calories even when you’re sleeping but you must exercise correctly to get the best results. Before I describe the best exercises to lose fat and increase metabolism, let’s briefly explore why lean muscle tissue is so important.
As I highlight in my world-renowned Complete Power Package consisting of 14 titles, Renew Your Life: Choose to Live Fully, more muscle means a faster metabolism because muscle uses more energy to exist than fat. Because muscle is a highly metabolic tissue, it burns five times as many calories as most other body tissues, pound for pound. In other words, muscle requires more oxygen and more calories to sustain itself than does body fat. When you have more muscle mass, you burn more calories than someone who doesn’t, even when you’re both sitting still, which is why people who build muscle have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight. They’re simply more efficient calorie burners.
If you increase muscle mass, you increase the number of calories your body is using every moment of the day, not just during exercise, but also at work, play, and even when sleeping. The addition of 10 pounds of muscle to your body will burn approximately 500 extra calories per day. You would have to jog 6 miles a day, 7 days a week to burn the same number of calories. Ten extra pounds of muscle can burn a pound of fat in one week (a pound of fat is 3,500 calories)—that’s 52 pounds of fat a year! Want to know how to increase your lean muscle tissue and my favorite fitness tips that I currently teach clients worldwide and also previously taught to students, staff, and faculty at UCLA for 30 years? Accelerate Fat Loss & Get Fit for Life in 8 Easy Steps
On the program This Week in America with host Ric Bratton, I share my 12 top-notch health- and life-changing recommendations on The ABCs of Easy & Lasting Weight Loss & Youthful Vitality.
Introduction for the 8-step series Metabolic Weight Loss & Body Tune-UP Tips
While millions of people starve to death in many parts of the world, the United States has the dubious honor of being the fattest country on the globe, with 50% of us being obese. Meanwhile, Americans are preoccupied with their waistlines. We spend more than 40 billion dollars a year on diet foods, diet programs, diet pills, and other ‘guaranteed’ weight-loss regimens and products. Yet, according to the National Center of Health Statistics, we’re getting fatter all the time. (Throughout my 14-title, life-changing collections — Renew Your Life — I communicate in detail on over 100 topics related to being vibrantly healthy in body, mind, and spirit, including everything you need to know to shed extra weight — easily and permanently.)
Experts call obesity an American epidemic—one that brings with it major health problems. Heart disease, endometrial (uterine) cancer and possibly breast cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, immune dysfunction, osteoarthritis, stroke, gout, sleep disorders, gallstones, and diabetes are all associated with obesity. Because I prefer to see the glass as half full, let's put this in a more positive light: Losing even a little weight may significantly improve your health and well-being.
On the flipside, eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia are on the rise, and women’s magazines are not helping when they continue to use models who look like waifs. Take Barbie™, a doll that’s part of most little girls’ upbringing. This model of good looks and perfect body is giving the wrong message about what a healthy woman’s body should look like. Were Barbie an actual person, her body fat would be so low that she probably wouldn’t even be able to menstruate. As little girls treasure Barbie, and teens try to emulate her, she has one accessory that is consistently missing—food. Continue on to find out the control mechanism for obesity, and you may be surprised with the answer.
Renew Your Life
I recently returned from a media tour where I gave some motivational talks, enjoyed some book-signings for my two-book set published by Conari Press — Walking on Air: Your 30-Day Inside and Out Rejuvenation Makeover and The Joy Factor: 10 Sacred Practices for Radiant Health, and was also a guest on numerous talks shows. During my travels, many people asked me to tell them about my collection entitled RENEW YOUR LIFE. So I'll take a couple minutes here to inform you about this life-changing program and how I teach my clients how to soar like an eagle in their lives and get to the top of the mountain of soul and life achievement.
Ten years ago, I made a choice to limit the clients (and families) that I work with as a holistic lifestyle coach from 36 to only 12 each year for my comprehensive year-long program. This has been a very positive change for me and my clients. These outstanding clients are all called my special Elite Eagles because, at the end of the year's work with me, they all soar in their lives like the majestic bird and are living up to their highest potential. Limiting my year-long clients to 12, I can give each of them more of my time, attention, and most custom-tailored consultations. I get to know each person or family intimately so that I can best guide them in creating their healthiest, happiest, and most successful lives. This is the work that I've been doing for over 35 years, but I am now limiting the clients that I see regularly. I write about some of these clients' experiences and profound breakthroughs in both of my books Walking on Air and The Joy Factor. Two live in my area of Santa Monica-Brentwood and Pacific Palisades, one family is from NYC, another family is from San Francisco, and the rest of them are from other cities around the world — Toronto, Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, London, Seville, Rome, and Dublin. I have a wait-list of three years at the moment and am not adding any more people to this list.
I work with each of the clients for one year and I get paid handsomely for my expertise working with each of my discerning clients and, occasionally, everyone in their family. We make a year-long commitment to each other. At least once a year, and usually at the start of their 12 months with me, I travel to my clients' homes to see how they live, experience their environment, discuss their goals and intentions, and detail a specific program for them to follow. Also, at least once a year, each client also comes to my area to further fine-tune their lifestyle choices and upgrade and enhance their choices and lifestyle in every way possible. I also talk to each of these 12 clients (or everyone in their family), once a week to give them support and to find out in what areas they might need more motivation, encouragement, clarification, understanding, or inspiration. And then once a year, the entire group of 12 clients and their families comes to Santa Monica and stays in a hotel by the beach for a long weekend of fun, festivities, activities, group work and discussions, and so much more that my team and I orchestrate. It's a chance for all of my clients to meet each other, share stories of their accomplishments and miracles, and to make new friends. This group get-together is one of the highlights of the year. Would you like to learn everything that I teach my clients? Continue reading.
Getting Your Body Ready for Conception and Pregnancy Plus Dr. Susan's Surefire Detox Tips for Everyone... and for All Ages
This blog starts out with info about preparation for conception for men and women. Then below, as you scroll down, I go into many toxic chemicals found in our environments and bodies and how you can easily cleanse and detoxify your body — tips for everyone of all ages. Diet, exercise, and sleep are important steps to take, but are NOT enough. Detoxification for both the mother and the father is a step that must be taken in order to give the unborn child a chance to thrive and reach human potential.
A 90-Day Pre-Conception Detoxification Program (and for anyone—male or female—wanting a whole-body cleanse) with the Thermal Life Sauna, Ionizer Plus Water Electrolyzer, will:
Remove heavy metals and chemicals from the body
Support detoxification of excess estrogen hormones
Reduce the body's acidic state; restore the natural pH balance
Eliminate digestive problems and inflammation
Improve energy and assist with weight maintenance
Jump-start healing and relieve allergies
Increase circulation to the reproductive system
Support the production of healthy sperm and eggs
Relieve the toxic burden on the body's organs
Support healthy endocrine hormonal system
Increase fertility and chance of healthy conception
Provide a solid foundation for overall health for the father, the mother and the unborn child
Today you can get a $300 discount on an Ionizer Plus Ultraviolet Electrolyzer Alkaline Water System for your kitchen and a $500 discount on a Thermal Life Infrared Sauna for your home! For more info, call Emily at High Tech Health, Ext. 802: 800-794-5355 MT

Toxic Mother and Her Unsafe Womb
Harmful heavy metals and chemicals are ingested by the mom-to-be everyday via air, water, soil and food.
Some toxins mimic female sex hormones, estrogens and progesterone, disrupting the endocrine system. This contaminates a healthy conception and pregnancy.
As the mother is exposed to hazardous toxins, she passes these toxins along to her unborn baby through the umbilical cord and into the placenta.
The earlier in life that toxic exposure occurs, the more powerful the toxins affect a child's development ongoing from that day forward.
The Environmental Working Group found a steady stream of pollutants and pesticides that cross the placenta. Of the 287 chemicals detected in the umbilical cord blood, (lots more below) 180 cause cancers in humans, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development. (lots more info below)
5 Weight Loss Tips Using Natural Remedies & Behavioral Modification to Help You Lose Weight Naturally and Permanently
Surveys reveal that most people pack on between 3-15 extra pounds from mid-November through early April. Here are a few of my favorite tips for saying GOODBYE — once and for all — to extra fat on your body, which includes behavior modification as well as natural herbs and other remedies.
It probably comes as no surprise that Americans are among the fattest people on Earth. Two-thirds of us are overweight and half of us are obese. We try and try to shed those excess pounds, mostly without success. “We spend $40 billion a year on diet programs, diet pills, diet foods and diet regimens,” as I write in my new titles Weight Loss, Living on the Lighter Side, Walking on Air, and The Joy Factor. “Obesity is an epidemic with a vast array of serious health consequences ranging from heart disease to diabetes, immune system dysfunction, osteoarthritis and even certain types of cancer.”
The problem is that keeping weight off entails a major life shift that comes in conflict with the way most people currently live. In the age of drive-thru fast food, supersized restaurant meals, and jugs of sugar-laden soda, we’re expected to be slim and compete with body types achieved by movie stars and supermodels.
Then add into this scenario the previous holidays and current lingering cold weather, which keeps many still homebound and “eating for entertainment.” Most people have the mindset that they can eat whatever they want during this time of year, and more variety of food than usual, because they will start fresh beginning in the new season. Unfortunately, this “fresh start” rarely happens. Furthermore, many people consume as much as 4,000 calories per meal, according to the latest surveys.
Here are the five helpful weight loss tips on eating properly, along with food, herbal, and natural remedy suggestions.
10 Steps to Effective Weight Loss
During an interview with Shaneka Marigny on her Body Transformation Summit program, I share my best tips to boost metabolism, supercharge energy, and achieving easy and lasting weight loss in the quickest time possible. To listen now, click HERE.
Permanent weight loss is certainly possible. Each one of you knows someone who has accomplished a long-term goal and maintained significant weight loss for 5, 10, 15 years or more. You can be a success story, too, simply by using some of these simple techniques. Here are your top 10 power strategies for the lifestyle change to achieve permanent weight loss:
Step 1: Change Your Color Palette
Ditch the white stuff! White foods -- white bread, white flour, pasta, sugar, cakes, pies, muffins, donuts -- are bound to add pounds to your waistline and little or nothing to your nutrition. That’s because all these “white” foods have a high-glycemic index, raising your blood sugar rapidly, only to have it crash and burn, causing you to crave more sweets (and fattening white stuff) hours later.
Sugar is bad. Most of us already know that. It adds empty calories—those that don’t offer any nutrition, but certainly add pounds. The average American consumes two to three pounds of sugar a week. Even if you’re not adding table sugar to your morning coffee or other foods, look for hidden sources of sugar in unexpected places: bread, mayonnaise, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, and virtually all frozen meals. Sugar plays havoc with your blood sugar. Avoid it at all costs.
Libido-Boosting Superfoods & Other Aphrodisiacs
To read one of my articles on How to Create Healthy, Happy Relationships, whether with family, friends or others, click HERE.
February, the month of Valentine's Day, is a great time to turn up the pilot light of your amorous side, if you are in a relationship. But really, any time of year is the perfect time to feel passion about life and your partner.
The following suggestions will rev up your libido and get you in the mood.
• Avocado – The Aztecs called the avocado tree “Ahuacuatil,” which means, translated, “testicle tree.” The ancients thought the fruit hanging in pairs on the tree resembled the male’s testicles. This is a delicious fruit with a sensuous texture. This luscious, sensual fruit contains vitamin B6 and is helpful in increasing male hormone production. In addition, potassium is found in avocado, which aids in regulating the female thyroid gland. A healthy thyroid is important for a robust libido level.
• Asparagus – Many foods thought to be aphrodisiacs were considered so because of their phallic shape. Asparagus, however, has more than just suggestive form. It is rich in vitamin E, a vitamin considered to stimulate production of our sex hormones and may be essential for a healthy sex life.
• Chili Peppers – A pepper’s heat comes from “capsaicin,” a chemical that stimulates our nerve endings, raises our pulse and makes us sweat. Some researchers believe that eating hot foods also triggers the release of endorphins, body chemicals that give us a natural high that is conducive to love-making. I take capsules of cayenne pepper every day.
• Figs – An open fig is thought to emulate the female sex organs and traditionally thought of as a sexual stimulant. Breaking open a fig and eating it in front of a lover is a powerfully erotic act.
• Garlic – The “heat” in garlic is said to stir sexual desires. Make sure you and your partner share some together. Garlic has been used for centuries to cure everything from the common cold to heart ailments. This is a good time for moderation. Enjoy pasta with a light garlicky sauce and it can lead up to something spicy in the bedroom later.
Susan's 5 to 10 Day Vitality~Longevity Cleanse & Rejuvenation Program: Simple Ways to Reverse Aging, Lose Weight & Beautify Skin
At the bottom of the page, you'll find the 3-Day Protein-Rich, Detox-Cleanse Smoothie Recipe.
Wish you could look and feel your best in a short amount of time? This simple cleanse, detox, and rejuvenation program is perfect. I have been using this with clients and friends for decades. My grandmother gave me the basics for it when I was a teenager. Since then, I have added to this full-body cleanse alkaline water from the Ionizer Plus Ultraviolet Water Filtration System.
Studies corroborate that systematically undereating promotes longevity. Embarking on a minimal calorie detox~cleanse program a few times a year suports high-level wellness for your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Everyone loves this surefire cleanse and most people use it at least four times a year with each change of season. Many also undertake this program whenever they want to lose some weight quickly and easily, such as before a wedding or reunion, or simply when you need a pick-me-up in your life. Whatever the reason, it always works well. Here are some things to remember before I give you the day-to-day program.
Getting the Most from this Simple, Effective Detox-Cleanse
Do this detox~cleanse for a minimum of 5 days or all the way up to 10 days. To extend it longer than five days, you have two options. You can do this program for 5 days and then repeat it for another 5 days. Simple. Or you can choose to consume the specific food or liquid for two days each instead of one — to make it a full 10-day program. Or, for example, if you want to do this for 7 days, you could extend the first two days to 48 hours each (instead of 24 hours) followed by only one day each for the rest — making it a full 7 days. In other words, you can custom design it to fit the days you have available to cleanse, but strive for at least the full 5 days. If I’m doing 10 days, I usually start on a Friday, so that I complete it on a Sunday. When doing it for five, six, seven, or eight days, start any day you wish that fits into your schedule and routine. However, before embarking on the full 10-day cleanse for the very first time, start with the 5-day only and see how great you feel and look at the end. In other words, do a full five days on the program once to completion, then resume your healthy diet before doing a longer, second cleanse of, say 10 days.
This simple program revitalizes and cleanses the entire body, head to toe, inside out. You can also substitute any fresh berries for the papaya, or other juicy, organic fruit for the papaya day, if you can’t get them in season. I have substituted Day 3 with apples, pears, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, pineapple, or mango, if I couldn’t find the ripe papayas. Pick one fruit and stick with it all day. And, if possible, find some delicious papayas. I prefer all organic fruit during this cleanse. Most cities have watermelon and cantaloupe (or other melons) year-round. While the cantaloupe and the watermelon are the most ideal and plentiful in most places during the summer and fall seasons, you can substitute other high water-content melons, if needed.
In addition to the fruit, also drink at least 6-8 glasses of purified water each day along with de-caffeinated teas of your choice (if desired).
I highly recommend that you purchase an Ionizer Plus Ultraviolet Water Electrolyzer System from High Tech Health (HighTechHealth.com).
