Thermal life and Transcend Infrared Saunas (the best in the industry) come in all sizes whether it's for just one person or an entire family. Personally, I got the largest one so I could lie down in it easily like you see the lady doing in the photos below. Sometimes I sit up when taking a sauna, but I usually start the sauna practice with lying down in some fashion. The pH levels of the body's internal fluids affect every single cell in the body. Increases or decreases in pH denature enzymes, harm important metabolic processes and can result in serious health consequences. Blood pressure can slowly creep up as we get older, which can lead to artery damage and other dangerous conditions. The latest studies this month reveal that 50% of Americans have high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. That's astonishing! Now a reading of 130/80 is considered borderline high. Did you know that high blood pressure greatly increases the risk of developing life-threatening conditions such as heart attack, stroke, anuerysm, and kidney disease.

One of my favoirte natural remedies for high blood pressue is MOLECULAR HYDROGEN Tablets and Inhaler. Medicines are effective but come with harsh side effects. Below are excerpts from an interview on the national program, This Week in America, with host Ric Bratton, where together we discuss hypertention and the best natural remedies to lower blood pressure...that really work! 1. Susan, before we get into your natural remedies to help lower blood pressure, what is blood pressure and what are some of the risk factors?

Blood pressure (BP) is the pressure of circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels. And it usually refers to the pressure in large arteries of the systemic circulation. Blood pressure is usually expressed in terms of the systolic pressure (maximum during one heart beat) over diastolic pressure (minimum in between two heart beats), and is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Normal resting blood pressure in an adult is approximately 120 millimeters of mercury for systolic, and 80 millimeters of mercury for diastolic, abbreviated "120/80 mmHg", and lately it has been revised down to 115/75. We should all know our numbers.

Risk factors for hypertension include physical inactivity, obesity, tobacco use, stress, and poor diet. Yet, conventionally trained doctors usually only offer a host of medications to control high blood pressure featuring serious side effects, which include weakness, headaches, swelling, flushing, and breathing difficulties.

2. Okay, are there safer ways to lower blood pressure? I did see on your website that you recommended Infrared Saunas and Alkaline Water to help with hypertension. Please explain.

Blood pressure can often be lowered with lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, stress management and – most importantly – nutrition. You are the one who decides what you eat. 1. Cashews and Almonds
Both of these tree nuts are packed with magnesium, an essential mineral that plays a key role in supporting healthy blood pressure. Low magnesium levels are associated with high blood pressure, and ramping up magnesium intake can cause blood pressure measurements to be reduced.

A single cup of cashews and almonds gives you a hefty 360 milligrams of magnesium, right in the wheelhouse of the 310 to 420 milligrams per day ‘Recommended Daily Allowance’ advised by the Linus Pauling Institute. 2. Beets
Also referred to as beetroot, this crimson root vegetable is loaded with nitrates and nitrites. Although many people are accustomed to thinking of these as dangerous, unnatural food preservatives, both occur naturally within the body. The key factor is which compound they convert to: carcinogenic nitrosamines are produced when nitrates are superheated – as in the case of fried bacon and cigarette smoke.

But when they are converted to beneficial nitric oxide, the result is blood vessels that are dilated and relaxed – resulting in lowered blood pressure. The effect can be dramatic. In fact, studies show that beetroot juice can reduce blood pressure by up to 10 mmHg (a millimeter of mercury is a manometric unit of pressure) within hours. And if 10 mmHg doesn’t seem very significant, remember, keep this in mind. A drop of only 5 mmHg can cause a 14% reduction in your chances of fatal stroke – very significant indeed.

For decades I have been doing Push-Aways, a word I coined in the '70's when I was the first fitness trainer in Los Angeles. I do them anywhere and everywhere I can. They are so simple and effective. Actually, they are simply a modified push-up, which is usually done on the ground. But much of the time, we don't want to get down on the ground to do a push-up when we are outdoors. So a push-away is perfect and lots of fun! Within a few days, you will see your strength improve and you'll be able to graduate to doing more reps on a lower railing, too.

During my hikes and outdoor power walks or jogs, I'm always looking for railings, walls, benches, fences, banisters, tree stumps, and anything on which to support my body weight. I also do them in my kitchen on the edge of island and peninsula, my office desk, and even on my bathroom vanity.

Notice this photo of my client Peter above near his home in Malibu. He is using the railing of the walkway to do his push-aways. Vary your arm position. Peter is doing this set with his hands placed under his shoulders. This gets the chest, front of the shoulders, and arms. If you keep your elbows close to your sides, you will also get your triceps (the underneath part of your upper arms). Then after a few seconds rest, do another set with your hands a bit wider than your shoulders, which is great for strengthening all of you chest muscles.

Our Modern Diets Are To Blame

Is there room for improvement in your diet and lifestyle? It's my belief that our modern diets are to blame for many of our most common ailments. Many people are digging their graves with their knives and forks and are making life and death decisions every time they sit down to a meal or snack. Disease often occurs as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle, which causes the body to become sluggish, congested, acidic, and polluted. Antibiotics, excess sugar, carbonated beverages, chemical food additive and over-the-counter drugs can alter the acid-alkaline balance of the intestinal tract, often killing beneficial bacteria and creating the perfect environment for harmful microbes to grow. Without the "good" or "friendly" bacteria to keep them in check, these "bad" bacteria can eventually overrun our body and severely depress our immune system. Mucoid plaque is a slimy gel-like substance that covers the inner lining of the intestines and bowel. Plaque harbors toxins and interferes with nutrient absorption. The colon is known to hold up to 30 or more pounds of old matter and can be packed with undigested foods and disease promoting bacteria.

Additionally, parasites are a toxic menace and can wreak havoc in your body. When faulty digestion keeps food from being properly processed and sent out of the body, undigested food can remain in the body and create fermentation and putrefaction. Typically, when we think of bacteria, we tend to associate these microorganisms with pathogenic or infectious outcomes. But not all bacteria are created equal! The more you rush around without keeping your life in perspective and in balance, the more you lose compassion for others and yourself, too. Did you know that you'll probably do more in this year — with appointments, people to meet, and places to go — than your grandparents did their entire lives? Given our current pace, we barely have time to relax and cultivate relationships with our spouses and children, friends and nature, much less with God. Is it any wonder that stress-related diseases are on the rise? We are under pressure to keep busy even in our leisure hours.

Computers have sped up our lives. We want to do everything, and we want to do it all at once. We talk on the telephone and text while we drive (even though there are now laws against this), watch television while we read, and conduct business while we listen to the radio. I see this as a sickness of epidemic proportions — a "busyness" or "hurry" sickness. This type of lifestyle also drains our hearts of compassion, according to many studies of late. If you understand the speed of life, you can slow it down by enjoying it more and by making a conscious choice of being more compassionate. Start with yourself. You'll find countless tips in my book BE THE CHANGE.

William Penn described well the importance of not putting off acts of kindness when he wrote, If there is any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not deter or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again. 2. Find ways to exercise daily. Develop a well-rounded fitness program that includes strength training, aerobics, and stretching. Make this program a top priority in your life, and stay committed to it. There is nothing that will do more good for you in terms of being vibrantly healthy, energetic, and youthful than a regular fitness program. 3. Laughter energizes the body and buoys us up. Whatever is stressing you out, one way to mollify this stress is to make sure your life is filled with laughter. Spend time with friends and family members who genuinely make you laugh. Laughter quells depression, activates the immune system, and makes your skin glow. And don't forget to laugh at yourself once in awhile when you make a mistake or do something unexpected—it is a humbling experience and one that reminds you not to take life too seriously. 4. Keep your body hydrated. Dehydration enervates the body and reduces cell function. When your body becomes dehydrated, even a wee bit, it puts more stress on your heart and zaps your energy. Water is also a safe, cheap, and effective appetite suppressant. Often when we think we're hungry, we're actually thirsty. 5. Make fresh fruits and veggies your daily companions. When I was young, my mom and grandmother always encouraged me to eat real food (not fake food), not too much, mostly plants, and to savor every bite (put the fork down between bites, breathe deeply and appreciate the food). I still honor their guidance to this day. I eschew refined carbs, fried foods, most beige and white foods, and anything made with artificial additives. I am happiest and most energetic when I emphasize plant-based foods as close to the way nature made them as possible. And never underestimate the importance of a minute of quiet, thankful prayer, and deep breathing before each meal or snack. This simple, yet sacred, practice will assist you in eating more slowly, enjoying the food more, and utilizing more nutrients through the digestive process. Recently, I asked 21 of my clients to eat two large-size salads a day for 30 days and include lots of leafy greens and a variety of vegetables in their salads. The salads needed to be eaten before other foods at the meal. Salads fill you up with healthy fiber so you have less space for unhealthy foods afterwards. This is the work that I've been doing for over 35 years, but I am now limiting the clients that I see regularly. And then once a year, the entire group of 15 clients and their families comes to Santa Monica and stays in a hotel by the beach for a long weekend of fun, festivities, activities, group work and discussions, and so much more that my team and I orchestrate. It's a chance for all of my clients to meet each other, share stories of their accomplishments and miracles, and to make new friends. This group get-together is one of the highlights of the year. Common Causes of Brain Fog: How to Deal with Brain and Mental Fatigue
As the body ages, one's memory can slowly start to fade and momentary lapses of confused thinking can become more common. This is a natural process, but in some cases, brain fog and fatigue can be accelerated by certain situations or conditions. Understanding the common causes of brain fatigue is essential for maintaining good health practices that will keep the brain clear-thinking and healthy for as long as possible.

What Is Brain Fog?
Brain fog, also commonly known as brain fatigue, can be a mild to severe episode of mental confusion that can strike without warning. When this occurs, it is common to experience a lack of focus, poor memory recall, and reduced mental acuity. If the underlying causes of the brain fog are not addressed, then the condition can continue to occur to the point that it can negatively affect one's professional and personal life. It can happen at any age, from childhood into the golden years.

Common Causes of Brain Fog

Brain fog (also known as mental fog or clouding of consciousness) and fatigue can be caused by a range of factors. In all cases, getting to the heart of what causes the brain fog is the key to overcoming this debilitating condition. Common causes of brain fatigue include:

  • Toxic Body: Brain fog is one of the first indicators of a toxic body. Year-round, keep your body detoxified (on the alkaline side instead of being more acidic) by supporting the organs of elimination, including the skin, lungs, kidneys, and bowel.   • Lack of Sleep & Water: The brain needs sleep in order to recuperate. So, when sleep is regularly interrupted, or when one suffers from a sleep disorder, he or she is more likely to experience brain fog in the morning upon waking. For some, a simple cup of coffee is enough to clear away the fog (freshly-made alkaline water works for me in any recipe requiring water), but for those who suffer from serious sleep deprivation, the fog can stay for quite some time. When your body is dehydrated, you may experience brain fog. So make sure to keep your body hydrated with purified water. There's a difference between tap, purified, alkaline, and acidic, water.   • Neurological Disorders: Certain neurological disorders have brain fog as side effects of the condition. These include fibromyalgia, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome and multiple sclerosis.
  • Stress: Stress is very powerful and it can negatively affect the body in a number of ways, including causing brain fatigue. While this is common during times of severe stress, such as when a loved one passes or a relationship breaks up, normal everyday stress should not cause it. If one starts experiencing brain fog from normal everyday stress, this may be an underlying sign of another problem.
  • Menopause: When women go through menopause, they sometimes experience brain fog due to fluctuating hormones. As the hormones become regulated, the symptoms of brain fog tend to disappear.
  • Diabetes: Since glucose is the primary source of energy for the brain, fluctuating glucose levels in the blood can cause some short-term brain fatigue symptoms. For this reason, those with diabetes are at high risk for brain fog.
  • Nutritional Deficiencies: Strong brain function relies on proper levels of magnesium, vitamin B12, and amino acids in the body. When these nutrients are deficient or the body is dehydrated, brain fog can occur.
  • Side Effects of Medications: Certain medications, such as those for high blood pressure, pain management and allergy relief, can cause mental confusion as a side effect. This can occur with any type of medication, both prescribed and over-the-counter.

Prep Time:
1 - 2 minutes

  • 1 - 1/2 cup Ionizer Plus Alkaline Water (or other juice like apple, orange, grapefruit, blueberry, cranberry, or coconut water)
  • 1/4 tsp. Blue Majik powder (or the contents of about 2 capsules)
  • 1 drop pure vanilla extract
  • 1 star anise

Put the powder into a glass, add the liquid (chilled or room temperature), and mix well until the powder is dissolved. Pour into cocktail glasses (or other favorite glass) and top with a star anise as pictured. The color is absolutely resplendent so make sure you put this in a see-through glass. Enjoy this salubrious cocktail morning, noon, or night. The star anise is mostly for decoration although it will impart a small flavor note of licorice if you let it sit in the refrigerator for a couple hours or more.

Variations:
At my local juice shop, I get different fresh blends of juices... apple/rose, apple/lavender, apple/pomegranate, watermelon/mint, and more. All of these blends work well for this cocktail, too. A simple coconut water is delicious for this cocktail. It's always a stunning color and enjoyed by all ages, even children.

Star Anise:
This star-shaped seed pod of an evergreen tree is about one inch high with eight segments and a dark brown rust color. It get its distinctive licorice taste, like regular anise, from a chemical compound called anethol. However, the two are not related botanically. The star anise is a member of the Magnolia family. It's one of the spices in Chinese five-spice powder.

In traditional Chinese medicine, this beautiful star anise is prescribed as a digestive aid and to help cure colic in babies. It's available in Asian supermarkets and also in most grocery stores in the spice section. When you get it home, store the star anise in a sealed container in a cool dark place; it will last for several months. Throw it out (or put it in your garden's soil) once the flavor fades. If you use it in your simmered or other dishes, star anise is usually added whole (don't break it up into pieces) and discarded before serving.

Turn on any nightly news report on television or the radio, or open any newspaper these days to the food section, and you will find lots of mounting and eye-opening information on food dyes, food colorings, and other chemicals and why we should avoid them. Some articles highlight the relationship of food dyes to ADHD, hyperactivity, and behavior problems in kids and adults, as well as the correlation between these artificial chemical dyes and cancer.

The use of artificial dyes in foods is up by half since 1990. Food dyes are in more than just candy. They can also be found in bagels, pickles, macaroni and cheese, beverages, fruit rolls, cheese, soft drinks, chips, crackers, gelatins, frozen desserts, breakfast cereals, and so much more. And here's a shocker! . . . they are even used in pet foods! How bizarre is that since some animals, like dogs, see in limited color, but, for some reason, the pet owners would prefer to have their animals' food in more vibrant colors rather than a dull gray dog chow. Fresh or canned, this colorful fruit (not a vegetable) can help keep you healthy for many months of the year. Like melons, it is a member of the gourd family. They offer lots of beta-carotene (only carrots and sweet potatoes have more) and are the number-one source of alpha-carotene, a cancer inhibitor that’s even more powerful than beta-carotene, according to studies. Researchers looking at the diets of more than 100,000 people found that those people who consumed the most alpha-carotene had as much as a 63 percent lower incidence of lung cancer. 

Carotenoids are deep orange-, yellow-, or red-colored, fat-soluble compounds that occur in a variety of plants. Carotenoids protect the plants from sun damage while they help them attract birds and insects for pollination. Carotenoids have been linked to a host of health-promoting and disease-fighting activities. They decrease the risk of various cancers, including those of the lung, colon, bladder, cervical, breast, and skin. In the landmark Nurses’ Health Study, women with the highest concentrations of carotenes in their diets had the lowest risk of breast cancer. Carotenoids also play a major role in protecting the skin and eyes from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light.

Extremely high in fiber and low in calories, pumpkin offers other nutrients, including potassium, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and vitamins C and E. One ounce of pumpkin seeds provides 20 percent of the daily RDA for zinc, an important immune-boosting mineral. There is nothing more restorative for the body than getting ample sleep night after night after night (or day after day if you work at night and sleep in the daytime). A good night's sleep is one of the most important parts of a wellness lifestyle and an essential component of being vibrantly healthy. Sleep is when we reset our appetite control and pain control. Sleep is when our energy regroups for the day to come. Below you will learn about some of my favorite tips for daily, restorative sleep, including my favorite mattress, hydrating water, heat therapy, the best superfood, and more.

The costs of sleep deprivation are irritability, falling asleep at work, wavering attention, and not fully processing the outside world. Tension, physical or psychological, keeps us from relaxing sufficiently to fall asleep. People are literally taking their worries to bed. Learn techniques for coping with stress and "winding down" before bed. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, stretching, and meditation are very helpful. Regular exercise is also a terrific way to help you sleep better. But don't exercise right before you are about to go to bed.

Lack of sleep undermines your body's ability to deal with stress. Research suggests that even one or two nights of sufficient sleep (experts recommend eight hours) can lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol more than a number of other stress management techniques combined. Granted, stress often interferes with sleep, but do your best to increase your chances of getting quality sleep by avoiding caffeine after noon, establishing a regular bedtime and wake-up time, and doing something relaxing in the hour before bedtime (no electronic devices!).

Here's a tip to remember: Don't associate the bed with wakefulness. If you can't sleep, get up and read a book, knit, watch television, or write in a journal until you feel sleepy. Need to Lose Weight?

Sleep plays a major role in glucose metabolism and neuroendocrine function. Research shows that getting a good night’s sleep is a critical part of losing weight. In a 16-year study involving 70,000 women, researchers found that women who slept five hours per night were 32% more likely to experience major weight gain (an increase of 33 pounds or more) and 15% more likely to become obese, compared to those who slept seven hours a night.

“Sleeping less may affect changes in a person’s basal metabolic rate (the number of calories you burn when you rest),” says lead researcher Sanjay Patel, MD., of Case Western Reserve University.

In Hong Kong, researcher
s found that children who did not get sufficient hours of sleep were more likely than their well-rested peers to be overweight.

It’s possible that reduced sleep means adults and kids are tired and therefore less likely to exercise. There is also some evidence that lack of sleep produces changes in levels of satiety and the hunger hormones leptin and ghrelin, according to Brown University Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior Mary A. Carskadon.

Too little sleep also makes you hungry, especially for calorie-dense foods, and primes your body to hold on to the calories you eat. It also boosts your insulin levels, which increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

So if losing weight is one of your goals, make sure that you make getting enough sleep a nonnegotiable daily practice in your life. And here are some more surefire tips to help you sleep like a baby.
